Girls SAP training session open to all
Football West News
Football West will host two Girls Skill Acquisition Program open training sessions as part of Female Football Week, which runs from March 2 to 10.
The Program, which develops core skills in fun and engaging training sessions designed according to FFA’s National Football Curriculum, is designed to assist players aged 10 to 13 to accelerate skill development and provides them with the technical tools to be able to play the game at the highest possible level by focusing on functional game skills.
Football West Skill Acquisition Trainer Brad Hassell will run both sessions at Celebration Park in Balga on Saturday, March 3.
The first session from 9am is for players born in 2008 and 2007, followed by a session for players born in 2006, 2005 or 2004 at 10.30am.
Club coaches working with Skill Acquisition age groups are also encouraged to register their interest in attending, as the sessions will be a chance to observe, ask questions and get some fresh ideas to use in their SAP sessions.
Hassell said the open sessions are a great opportunity for players to ‘come and try’ a Girls SAP session, with Perth Glory women’s players Shawn Billam also in attendance.
“The sessions focus on the functional skills of 1v1’s, first touch, running with the ball and striking the ball, taught through fun, game-based practice,” he said.
“This is a good chance for players, parents and coaches to come and have a look at how the Girls Skill Acquisition Program can benefit the development of our young players.”
