Dion Berman was the two-goal hero as Morley Windmills claimed a 2-1 win against the run of play at Dianella White Eagles in the State League Division One on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the White Eagles commanding most of the possession throughout the first half at Dianella Reserve, they were caught out by a near-perfect counter-attack right on half-time as forward Berman finished a right-wing cross.
Dianella came out firing after the break, creating numerous opportunities, but they found Windmills goalkeeper Yousri Gharsallah in inspired form.
And on 62 minutes Morley scored again as the White Eagles backline failed to clear another cross from the right and Berman claimed his second goal.
As the game entered the final quarter the White Eagles continued to create chances, although not with the composure they showed before the break.
But they finally got a break two minutes from the end when a handball in the area gave Morley a penalty and forward Angel Andreas scored.
Despite the Round Five win and his brace, Berman was not entirely content.
“We put it in together, worked hard at training and made the most of our chances,” he said.
“It wasn’t pretty but we won, which is the most important thing.
“This wasn’t our best football, we know we have a few extra gears to go up.”
Dianella head coach Robbie Dunn felt this was an avoidable loss.
“They had two shots on goal and scored twice, while we had around 10 shots on goal and scored once,” Dunn said.
“I think we totally outplayed them, they sat back and wasted time – if even some of our shots went in, we could have scored six, maybe seven times,
“We are one of the highest scoring teams in the league, we just have to stop leaking goals though.”
