Football Federation Australia News

Caltex Socceroos’ defender Trent Sainsbury has signed for Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.

The 26-year-old West Australian signs on for the Dutch heavyweights after ending his spell at Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning.

One of Australia’s brightest players at their recent FIFA World Cup™ campaign, Sainsbury now reunites with PSV boss Mark van Bommel, who was Assistant Coach to Head Coach Bert van Marwijk in Russia.

Van Bommel was announced manager of PSV on June 22.

PSV’s interim technical manager John de Jong welcomed the signing of the former Armadale SC junior.

“Trent is a defender who we found interesting when he was still playing at PEC Zwolle,” de Jong told the club’s official website.

“It is now a player with a lot of international experience. Among other things at the World Cup he showed that he has developed excellently.

Sainsbury has made 38 appearances for the Caltex Socceroos since making his debut in September 2014.
