McEwan double gives Under 14s third win

Football West News

Two goals from ECU Joondalup’s Kane McEwan gave the Gold Fields Under 14 State team a third successive victory at the National Youth Championships.

McEwan’s brace was enough for the WA side to beat Football NSW’s No1 “Blue” team 2-1 at Coffs Harbour today.

Head coach Mark Scanlan prasied his team’s resilience after they backed up from the earlier fixture.

“It was our second game today so the boys were tired but we defended really well and I couldn’t be happier,” he said.

“The majority of their team make up the Sydney FC Under 15s so they are a really good team.

“And it’s been a good day for Kane, three goals in two games.”

The Gold Fields Under 13 Team began today with a 2-1 win over Capital Football thanks to goals from ECU Joondalup duo Louis Hadfield and Toby Snook.

However they went down 3-0 to Football NSW “Blue” in their second game of the day.

Multiple sides proved themselves to be title contenders on the first day and still remain undefeated, but with each team having at least three games still to play, the championships were still well and truly up-for-grabs with three days to go.
