More than 260 girls from regional and metropolitan clubs were present when Australind Junior Soccer Club hosted their first annual Girls Soccer Carnival this month.
The event, which aimed to increase female football participation in regional areas, proved to be popular, attracting players from 24 clubs.
Girls aged from seven to 17 competed in the carnival, held at the Leschenault Recreation Reserve in Australind.
Clubs including Bunbury United, McKillop Soccer Club, Hay Park United, Baldivis, Baldivis Districts, Harvey Hawks Soccer Club, Dunsborough, Eaton Dardanup, Fremantle City and Quinns took part in the event, with players from other local teams also coming to join in.
Carnival facilitator Steph Garner said the event was a huge success.
“We had a lot of positive feedback from all of the clubs who attended,” she said.
“Seeing all the girls playing together and forming new friendships is wonderful, and we’ve already had a great interest shown in a follow-up event for next year.
“The aim of the event was to get the girls together to have fun, but we also want to encourage them to continue to play football as they get older.”
