Bassendean shock NTC

Report by Callum George

A double from forward Epril Nossent has guided Bassendean Caledonian to an emphatic 3-1 victory over fourth placed NTC in the final round of the Bankwest Women’s State Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The home side got off to a flyer against the NTC youngsters, with Epril Nossent getting on the end of Casey Soffe’s deflected shot and tapping home into an empty net to open the scoring just five minutes into the match.

NTC almost got one back instantly when Izzy Foletta’s set-piece sailed just inches over Liana Cook who was left in acres of space at the back post.

Despite the early goal it was the NTC who were the more dominant team in the early stage.

The visitors got their reward for that dominance when the ball was played down the right and drilled a ball across the six-yard box for Jenna Onions who tapped it home to level the scores at the break.

After the break, the NTC girls came out signaling their attacking intent, with it taking less than a minute for Foletta to register the first shot of the half.

Only moments later, Wise-Jarvis went agonisingly close to giving NTC the lead when her long-range attempt was denied by a fantastic save from Bassendean keeper, Sofia Vujovich.

Similar to the first half, NTC were controlling possession in the second half, with Bassendean looking to hit the visitors on the counter attack.

Despite NTC controlling play, Bassendean took the lead again, this time through Ashlee Byrne who got the final touch on a set-piece, tapping it home into the back of the net just before the hour mark.

Chasing the game, NTC were throwing everything they had at Bassendean, piling numbers forward in search of an equaliser.

NTC came close to drawing level five minutes before time through Foletta, who made a stellar run into the box before firing a shot just inches wide of the near post.

With numbers forward and space at the back, Bassendean took advantage of the open NTC backline on the counter attack.

Loren Baker worked her way down the left wing before playing a ball into the box for Epril Nossent who made no mistake, tucking it home into the bottom corner for her second and securing Bassendean Caledonian its first win of the season in the final round.
