Queens Park are on the cusp of a league and cup double after they defeated Northern Redbacks 3-0 in the final of the Women’s State Cup at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.
Ben Anderton’s side were much the superior team and goals from Tia Stonehill, Katarina Jukic and Sadie Lawrence comfortably saw off the outgunned Redbacks.
Queens Park are also so far ahead in the title race they can afford to lose their last three league games and will probably still win the title. They haven’t lost one yet.
While Queens Park celebrated, it was another final setback for Redbacks who were beaten 4-3 by NTC Women in the Night Series decider earlier this year.
North Beach celebrate their cup win
Meanwhile two goals in as many minutes from Makayla Crawford helped North Beach beat Perth AFC 3-1 in the final of the Women’s Metropolitan Cup Final on Saturday.
Crawford took advantage of a mistake from Perth goalkeeper Sophie Gherardi to put her side in front midway through the first half.
And the same player struck again soon after when she produced a fantastic chip from outside the area to ensure North Beach had a two-goal lead at the interval.
It got even better for North Beach when Lauren Carey stabbed in the third from close range after Grace Miles’ effort was blocked by Gherardi’s legs.
But after Steph Goadsby pulled one back for from the penalty spot, Perth threw caution to the wind and on another day it could have been a different story.
There was some joy for Northern Redbacks earlier in the day when they beat Quinns 4-0 in the final of the Smarter Than Smoking Under 16 Cup, while Ellenbrook United beat Murdoch University Melville in the Smarter Than Smoking Under 14 Cup Final after their game ended 0-0.
