Perth’s African football community will showcase their talent when the annual Africa Down Under Cup returns to Langley Park on September 7.
Football West and Paydirt Media will host the tournament for the fifth successive year as part of the Africa Down Under conference, which raises awareness of Australia’s interests in African mining and energy.
The Cup provides an opportunity for conference delegates and members of the public to celebrate African cultures, while teams representing Perth’s African communities compete in small-sided soccer matches.
Teams will play in a round robin tournament for a place in the main match of the day, as spectators are invited to enjoy different aspects of African culture.
Africa Down Under Cup, which will feature African food and music, is one of many Football West initiatives that support and engage people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
With the help of corporate sponsors, participating teams will be provided with playing bibs and training equipment for their training programs.
The free event, which highlights the emerging diversity of Perth’s football community, will be open to all members of the public from 4pm to 7:30pm.
