FFA sanctions a registered player in WA over betting

FFA News

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has sanctioned a registered player from Western Australia for betting on football matches, in breach of the FFA National Code of Conduct.

The breaches included betting on various matches in Australia, including Hyundai A-League and PS4 National Premier Leagues matches.

FFA has determined a sanction of a $1,000 suspended fine, which will be triggered immediately in the event of another breach of the Code of Conduct.

Football West Head of Member Services Alex Novatsis supported FFA’s efforts to raise awareness of this issue.

“All registered participants in WA are bound by the National Code of Conduct and the ban on betting could not be clearer,” Novatsis said. “Football West supports the sanction issued and will continue to work with its participants to ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities.  On the eve of the 2017 season, this serves as a timely reminder for our football community about this issue.”

The participant has a right of appeal under the Code of Conduct to FFA’s independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
