Football West big winner at awards

Football West was the big winner at the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ 2017-18 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards at Optus Stadium.

Football West won the Minister’s Award for Industry Excellence and the Organisational Excellence Award.

Football West was also acknowledged as a finalist in the Innovation in Practice and Professional Event of the Year categories.

Football West CEO James Curtis collected the awards from Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray and Director General Duncan Ord.

Mr Curtis said: “I’m very proud of the Football West team, our partners, clubs and volunteers.

“This is great recognition for football right across WA.

“Well done to all the sport and recreation organisations and volunteers recognised today.”

Mr Murray said: “Congratulations to all the award winners. These awards play an extremely important role in ensuring WA continues to be one of the world’s best places to live and enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle.

“The finalists also showcase the exciting emergence of stronger partnerships between sports and stakeholders, and the innovative research and planning taking place to keep the sector strong.

“These people have dedicated much of their lives to ensure the sport and recreation industry continues to contribute to the health, wellbeing and quality of life of so many people.”
