Forrestfield hammer Ashfield in the rain

Report by Tristan Wheeler

Forrestfield recorded a dominant 6-0 win over Ashfield at Hartfield Park to sit second on the All Flags State Division One ladder.

A double to Rhys Loxley, two own goals and a goal to Hasani Sinclair gave the hosts a remarkable 5-0 lead inside the first half hour.

Ben Rogers added another in the second half to cement a satisfying result for Forrestfield coach Rob Banjac, who is looking forward to a bright future for the club.

“This is a true indication for us of how far we’ve come,” he said.

“At the beginning of the season we lost 4-0 to these guys.

“Our whole structure is set up for the development side of things, and now that we have that in place our production line is functioning, and this is the end product of the boys coming into the academy at the age of 12.”

Ashfield coach Matt Wardle found it difficult to sum up the way that the evening had gone for the visitors.

“Effectively the first 15 minutes killed us with the own goal, the penalty and the scrappy goal line clearance,” he said.

“Mentally we weren’t at the races and if we can take anything from this, then it is the lowest low we’ve had all year, and I think this is the lowest we’ll have.”

Forrestfield got off to a dream start in the 3rd minute, taking the lead after the ball ended up in the net following a goalmouth scramble.

Things went from bad to worse for Ashfield on 16 minutes after a headed back pass by Matt Horton deceived goalkeeper Bradley Eiffe and found its way into the net.

It was 3-0 a minute later when Eiffe fouled a Forrestfield attacker in the area to earn a yellow card and concede a penalty, which was converted by Sinclair.

Loxley then scored twice in three minutes after first receiving a long ball and finishing past the goalkeeper, before scoring a terrific volley at the back post on 29 minutes.

The second half was played at a calmer pace with Forrestfield maintaining possession and patiently waiting for opportunities.

Rogers dummied his way through two defenders on 58 minutes to score Forrestfield’s sixth and final goal.

Eiffe saved Loxley’s penalty to deny him his hat trick late on, but it mattered little as Forrestfield continued their promotion push.
