Forrestfield United unveil new facility under lights
Football West News
Forrestfield United celebrated the opening of its new facilities at Hartfield Park with a comprehensive 4-2 win over visiting Gosnells City on Saturday night in the All Flags State League Division One.
Around 650 fans were on hand for the official unveiling of the $700,000 stand and they were not disappointed by the action.
Coach Rod Banjac’s side took the lead through Trevor Laure in the 15th minute and doubled their advantage when Ben Rogers rifled home four minutes into the second half.
Gosnells pulled a goal back through Jordan Parfitt on the hour mark to set nerves jangling among the home fans but it lasted just two minutes before Mitch Crocker scored Forrestfield’s third goal of the match.
Scott Pereira edged Gosnells closer in the 75th minute but Laure made sure of the victory with his second goal of the match two minutes from the end.
The win took Forrestfield to sixth on the table but more importantly marked a significant moment in the club’s history.
President Andy Osborne said the new facility was just reward for the hard work and dedication over the past six years.
“The thing that impressed me the most wasn’t the grandstand or the fact that the first team beat Gosnells 4-2,” he said on www.fusc.org.au. “It was the sense that the whole club came together with a fantastic feeling of family and community. I hope we can build on that in the coming weeks and months and attract large crowds to every home game.”
In 2013, the State Government committed more than $6 million towards the redevelopment of Hartfield Park under a master plan developed by the Shire of Kalamunda.
The improvement made to Forrestfield United’s football facilities has further cemented the club’s ambition, Osborne said.
“After six years of hard work by past and current committee members and countless volunteers, who have sacrificed their time and energy, we now have a stadium which makes a statement,” he said. “And the message is that Forrestfield United have arrived and we are a force to be reckoned with.”
