Freeman on target in Gold Fields U15 draw
Football West News
Freeman Nyatsambo was on target for the Gold Fields Under 15 State Team on Sunday as the WA side earned an impressive draw with the China National Under 15 side.
The Bayswater midfielder benefited from a great run into the box by Jamie Swan, who beat a defender than squared the ball for Nyatsambo to fire home.
But a contentious injury-time penalty gave China an equaliser as the WA boys were made to settle for a second successive 1-1 draw in the Jinshan International Youth Football Championship.
Head coach Garry Church was delighted with how his players adapted during the game.
“China had the better of the first half and some great saves from Sam Reilly kept us in the game,” Church said.
“In the second half China changed the set up and tried to play out from the back a lot more and try to draw us in.
“But credit to the players, they was very disciplined and held their shape which resulted in China playing over the top. However our back four and midfield were strong and aggressive in the tackle.
“After Freemn scored you could see that China were getting frustrated. I’m not one to comment on refs’ decisions but we got nothing in our favour. Despite this the boys carried on and in the last minute of injury time they got a questionable penalty.
“Although the game finished one apiece our lads should be proud of themselves to draw with an international team who train together for a long period of time throughout the year while we have only had seven games together. It is a great achievement.
“The boys were disappointed with the decisions against them but it’s how they react in our next game that count.”
