Fremantle City celebrate their Night Series win

Fremantle start Night Series defence against Canning

Football West News

State League Night Series holders Fremantle City will start this season’s competition against Canning City.

The match takes place at Edinburgh Oval on Friday, February 1 (8.30pm) and will follow the other Pool 5 match between home team Curtin University and Mandurah City (6.30pm).

One of the picks of the opening night of games is in Pool 4, where Wanneroo City will host neighbours Olympic Kingsway, the team that pipped them to the Division Two title and automatic promotion on goal difference last season.

Preceding that fixture is the game between Joondalup United, who were relegated from the NPL WA, and Swan United.

Last year’s beaten Belt Up Cup finalists Gwelup Croatia take on Joondalup City at Inglewood United’s Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium in Pool 3, followed by Quinns v Morley Windmills.

Forrestfield United’s Hartfield Park is the venue for the opening Pool 1 matches on February 1. Subiaco, another team who have dropped out of the NPL, play Balga (6.30pm) while Dianella and UWA Nedlands clash immediately after (8.30pm).

There are two pools of matches scheduled for Sunday, February 3.

Forrestfield, back in the State League after two seasons in the NPL, host Shamrock Rovers (7pm) at Hartfield Park in Pool 2. That match follows the Murdoch Melville University-Ashfield SC tie (5pm).

In Pool 6 South West Phoenix meet Kelmscott Roos (5pm) at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium, followed by Gosnells City v Western Knights (7pm).

The State League Night Series quarter-finals will be on Saturday, February 23. The semis are schedulded for a week later, March 2, and the final March 9.
