The WA side celebrate one of their nine goals

Gold Fields State U15s win 9-0

Football West News

The Gold Fields State Under 15s Boys smashed Japanese side Progresso Sano 9-0 at the Bali International Football Championships on Thursday night.

Goals from Kane McEwan (2), Freeman Nyatsambo, Jude Gauntlett (pen), Hamish Van Dieken (2), Daniel Faichney, Carl Dias and a Japanese own goal ensured the WA team collected a third win from four games since arriving at the holiday island.

This includes two wins in the tournament, in which the State side play their final game on Friday night against Apuesto Bueno United of the Philippines before Saturday’s closing ceremony.

The win confirmed the West Australian side had moved on from the heartache of their injury-time loss to Korean outfit Chang Nyeong in their last match.

Coach Brad Hassell, whose players led 4-0 at the break, said: “We’ve had a day off since the last game, explored a bit of Bali and the boys have had some fun. We’ve come back here and they’ve put on a good performance.”

WA would have had double figures if not for the woodwork, which they struck three times, and Hassell said the aim now was to finish the trip on a high.

“We kind of reassessed out goals having the group stage not falling well for us, and I think if we can get a win in the last game we’ll have succeeded in three wins in four (which) is a good target,” he said.
