Subiaco AFC tasted their first European success during a recent U15 Scandinavian Tour with victory in the Cup No.1 tournament in Frederikshavn, Denmark.
A 3-0 win over American team Skandia United in the final earned the club’s first silverware since starting overseas tours in 2007.
The competition, which was held in July, included teams from the likes of Russia, Denmark and Norway.

Immediately after the win in Denmark, the team travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden, to compete in the Gothia Cup.
With over 1,700 teams from 80 countries, the tournament is highly competitive and Subiaco performed admirably to top their group ahead of teams from Norway, Mexico and Germany.
Unfortunately, they were eliminated by Argentinean side Tucuman, 2-1, in the Round of 32.
Subiaco President Mark Cheveralls was delighted with the team’s success.
“We are strong supporters of tournaments for our youth, because the whole process of raising funds, planning and preparation teaches them a great deal about life skills generally,” he said.
“Having worked together to raise the funds, then travelled together and lived together for two weeks, they get to know each other really well, and the friendships become deep and long lasting.
“Upon their return, the touring teams usually step up the performance, and have often gone on to win the league.”
The squad was the sole WA representative.
