Indonesian side start with win

The Persebaya Under-19 football team won the first match on their eight-day tour of Perth today when they took on Lynwood Senior High School Under-15s.

WA Governement Minister for Asian Engagement Bill Johnston joined Football West CEO James Curtis, City of Canning Mayor Paul Ng and Persebaya President Azrul Ananda at Hossack Reserve in Parkwood to take in the game.

The Indonesian party had a training session at the venue in the morning with Football West Technical Manager Cris Ola and Gosnells City junior coach Ario Susanto, who doubled up as an interpreter.

They then dropped in on a class at the school before comfortably defeating the Lynwood side.

Mr Curtis said: “It was a successful day and we would like to thank Lynwood Senior High School for their support.

“The Persebaya side were very impressive and played a positive style of football.”

The touring party is attending a City of Perth function tonight before taking in the Cockburn City v Joondalup United National Premiers League WA match tomorrow.

Their next fixture is against the Gold Fields State Under-15 team on Monday.
