Kerr nets hat-trick in Matildas win
Football West News
Western Australia’s Samantha Kerr scored a first-half hat-trick as the Westfield Matildas beat regional rivals Japan 4-2 at the Tournament of Nations in San Diego.
Emily van Egmond converted from the spot in the second half to make sure of Australia’s triumph, which means a point or three against Brazil in the next match will send the Westfield Matildas home with a prestigious piece of international silverware.
The victory came just days after the Australian team beat the United States for the first time in 27 matches.
Tomorrow, the team travels to Los Angeles where they will conclude their Tournament of Nations campaign against Brazil.
The Westfield Matildas will return to Australia for a pair of friendly internationals against Brazil in September – at Penrith’s Pepper Stadium on Saturday, September 16, and at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday, September, 19.
