Kingsley saves best for last

Report by Tristan Wheeler

An impressive second half performance saw Kingsley overcome Kwinana United 4-0 in round four of the Amateur Premier League at Kelly Park on Sunday.

Goals from David Ashworth, Luke Armstrong, Lewis Flatt, and Jayden Drummond handed Kingsley a dominant victory.

Kingsley coach Steve Dimitrovich was ecstatic with his side’s performance and the effectiveness of his half-time tactical adjustments.

“We changed a couple of players around to try and beat the offside trap, and give ourselves a little bit more pace through the middle,” he said.

“I was going to change it back after ten minutes, but it seemed to keep working so we kept going with it.”

Kwinana coach Kris Donnell was disappointed by the result.

“We played well in the first half in parts and created a couple of chances, but in the second half the Kingsley team looked a bit fitter than us,” he said.

“Once they got the first two goals we sort of lost our head a little bit.

“The boys are upset, so we just need to work hard in training and get ourselves back on track for next week.”

The first half was tightly contested with a number of chances, but neither side managed to find the net.

The second half was full of action, as Kingsley’s tactical changes began to pay off.

By pushing Ashworth forward, their pace began to trouble Kwinana’s defenders and he headed home from a free-kick out wide in the 52nd minute.

10 minutes later, Kingsley doubled their advantage through Flatt. Played through on goal, he rounded the keeper and tapped the ball home.

Things went to from bad to worse for Kwinana in the 84th minute. Armstrong’s pace saw him through the offside trap and round the keeper for Kingsley’s third.

As legs began to tire, it would be left to Drummond to add a fourth goal in the 89th with a simple tap in.

The victory leaves Kingsley sitting third on the table, equal with Subiaco on nine points but behind on goal difference.

Kwinana is sitting on three points, and have lost three of their last four games.
