SEASON PREVIEW: Leeming out to strike early
Football West News
Leeming Strikers coach David Palin is hopeful his side can build on their recent Night Series final success as they go into the 2018 Amateur Premier Division campaign.
Leeming beat Kingsley 1-0 to take the pre-season crown and can prove their worth when they host last year’s champions Wembley Downs in Round One.
“There’s no point winning the cup in the Night Series and losing Round One,” Palin said.
After finishing fifth last season, the Strikers can put down a marker against Wembley and Palin added: “We’re set up really nicely.”
Wembley will be equally confident they can go back-to-back after losing just two games last season to finish three points clear of Kingsley.
Kingsley open their campaign against promoted outfit UWA-Nedlands as they look to kick their season off on the right foot.
Another newly-promoted side Jaguar will be keen to take a few early scalps. And having finished second in Division One last year, Chol Kong’s team will fancy their chances when they travel to take on Ellenbrook United for their opening match.
Hamersley Rovers, who finished one spot above the drop zone last year, will be after an improved season.
They begin away to North Perth United, who got off to a flying start last season by winning their first eight games before tailing away to finish in third spot.
Other matches see Kwinana United travel to take on Southern Spirit and Subiaco host Belmont Villa.
