Leeming strike out Kwinana

Leeming Strikers claimed a 3-2 victory over Kwinana United at John Connell Reserve on Sunday in round 7 of the Amateur Premier division.

Leeming came from 2-1 down at half time with a good second half performance to overcome Kwinana in a tense and scrappy game.

Leeming Strikers manager David Palin said he was very happy with his side’s efforts.

“I think we battled really hard, Kwinana are a good side and they made us work for it today. I think we deserved it.”

Leeming hit the front early in the 3rd minute as winger Yohan Campton capitalised on some clumsy defending from Kwinana to put his shot round the keeper and take the lead.

Leeming’s good start was overturned by Kwinana in the 32nd minute when striker Lee Bates’ first shot was saved by the Leeming keeper, but he turned in the rebound to make it 1-1.

Two minutes later Kwinana’s Clint Brown made it 2-1 from a rapid Kwinana counter attack from Leeming’s corner. Brown stormed up the field and put it past the keeper into the bottom corner.

A 63rd minute goal from substitute striker Andrew Jenkins levelled the game at 2-2, and Lucas Pickering glanced a header into the top right corner just three minutes later to put Leeming ahead.

Leeming nearly made it even safer in the 80th minute but Pickering’s shot into the top left was well saved by Joe Page in goal for Kwinana.

The final ten minutes were tense and Kwinana may feel unlucky not to have equalised despite their good efforts in the match.

Palin said the win was a real team effort.

“Everyone stood up when we needed them to stand up,” he said.

“That’s five wins in a row now, and we want to make it six next week.”
