Massive win seals title for Queens Park

Report by Ryan Borrett

Queens Park beat Bassendean Caledonian 8-0 in a stunning display to claim the Bankwest Women’s State Premier League title on Sunday.

Queens Park needed the three points to seal the championship and did so with a dominant 90-minute display and striker Karatina Jukic scoring five goals.

Queens Park coach Ben Anderton said he was delighted for his players.

“I’m very happy for the girls.

“We had a lot of new faces this year so it just shows how hard they’ve worked all season.

“It’s been pleasure to coach such a good group.”

Queens Park took the lead early in the 11th minute as Jaime-Lee Gale’s driven cross from the right wing found Bassendean defender Jorja Wilson who put the ball into her own net as she tried to clear.

Their lead was doubled in the 25th minute after another period of good play on the right saw Rebecca Bennet’s cross find Jukic in the box who had a simple finish.

Jukic scored her second in the 41st minute and completed her hat-trick early in the second half with a brilliant curling shot from the edge of the box.

Jukic added her fourth in the 54th minute with a powerful header from Tia’s Stonehill’s corner delivery and made it five in the 75th minute with a tidy finish one on one with the keeper.

Anderton was particularly impressed with Jukic’s game.

“Katarina is our top goal scorer and she was absolutely fantastic today.”

Queens Park’s passing play and solid defensive structure was too strong for Bassendean who struggled to create any real chances in the match.

Queens Park defensive midfielder Jaymee Gibbons dictated the tempo of the game from the centre of the park and sparked a lot of her side’s attacking moves.

Stonehill’s pace and movement on the left for Queens Park was impressive throughout the match and found herself on the scoresheet in the 47th minute, running onto the end of Bennet’s low cross inside the area to finish nicely.

The eighth and final goal came in the 85th minute as Rebecca Di Carlo saw Bassendean keeper Sofija Vujovich off her line and launched a lob shot from 30 yards.
