The Gold Fields State Team are ready to give Perth Glory a true test when they meet at Inglewood United’s Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium on Wednesday night.
Coach Jamie Harnwell and assistant Brad Hassell have selected a squad with players from all NPL WA sides except Armadale, who are in FFA Cup action on the same night, and Glory.
Despite the season getting to the business end, the teams were happy to release their players for the Gold Fields Challenge Cup clash and Harnwell was impressed with the focus shown at their training session on Monday night.
“Despite it being a busy time of the season, the players have quickly shown that they are committed to representing the Gold Fields State Team and putting on a competitive performance against Perth Glory,” Harnwell said.
“There are some real quality players in the NPL WA and Brad and I have already seen that in the short time we have had with the team.
“I have been fortunate enough to be on both sides of this fixture in the past, and have always found it a great game to be involved with and an opportunity for the local players to be recognised.”
Gwelup Croatia’s Benny Kouakou is the only current non-NPL player in the 22-man squad and he’ll look to offer a goal threat along with ECU Joondalup’s Daryl Nicol and Alex Salmon of Inglewood.
The two goalkeepers in the squad are James Morgan of Sorrento and Cockburn’s Luke Radonich.
Last year’s match between the teams, played at Forrestfield, finished 1-1. Adam Taggart levelled for Glory following a goal from Angel Andres for the State Team.
The match kicks off at 7pm and is free entry.
