Strong start for NTC Women

Report by Jesse Foletta

NTC Women started the Women’s Premier State League season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Beckenham Angels on Sunday at Mills Park.

The Night Series champions found the net 60 minutes into the match through Abbey Green who finished a long ball into the box, delivered by Georgia Cawley.

Four minutes later NTC were awarded a penalty kick and captain Abbey Meakins stepped up to take it, slotting it into the bottom left corner.

NTC’s Morgan Aquino shined, making a series of spectacular saves, keeping the Beckenham forwards at bay.

“Everyone played their part and really wanted the win,” she said.

“We’ve been working really hard in the weeks leading up to the first round and I’m glad that the hard work is paying off.”

Coach Jessine Bonzas was pleased with the NTC victory.

“The girls had some good passages of play today and we’re happy to come away with the three points,” she said.

“However we’ll need to look to be a bit more consistent, especially in our play in the final third of the pitch.”

Despite not scoring, Beckenham strikers had numerous opportunities as a result of well executed pressure.
