Football West’s trials for the Gold Fields Women’s State Futsal Team attracted a strong turnout on Sunday – including three players who travelled from Kalgoorlie to take part.
The trials, which took place at Ballajura Sports Centre, are to represent WA at the inaugural Gold Coast International Challenge in Queensland in January.
The final trial is at the Pro Futsal Centre, Bibra Lake, next Sunday.
Football West Development Officer Garry Church was in charge of the session, along with fellow coaches Penny Rinaldi and Adriano Martino.
“There is a good pool of players and that makes the selection even harder, which is a good thing,” Church said.
“Having the opportunity to add a women’s futsal team to our additional State teams is fantastic.”

The three players who made the six-hour trip from Kalgoorlie were Tamera Sharp, Caris Tonkin and Sara Carrasco. The trio all play for Boulder City.
“Although the girls play indoor football, this was the first time they had played futsal but they all adjusted quiet quickly,” Church said.
“It was great to see players from outside of Perth come to the trials and to come from Kalgoorlie is a amazing. It just shows how committed these girls really are.”
Sharp said: “We’re very grateful to have the opportunity to trial for the WA women’s futsal team.
“Being located in a regional location can make it a little tricky to attend these chances. With the three of us attending from Kalgoorlie we were able to make a weekend of the trip and also trial for the team.”
