Ten-man Forrestfield go top

Report by Matthew Corvi

Forrestfield United have moved to the top of the All Flags State League Division One after edging Rockingham City 1-0 in a close encounter at Hartfield Park on Saturday afternoon.

Trevor Laure was the hero, putting his side ahead in the 56th minute despite Forrestfield playing the second half with ten-men.

Forrestfield coach Rob Banjac was delighted with his sides performance.

“Over the moon with the performance today.

“Credit to Rockingham, they didn’t disappoint. Entertainment is always of great value when we play each other,” Banjac said.

Forrestfield had multiple chances to take the lead in the opening 10 minutes, with Rhys Loxley putting the ball across the face of the goal twice but no one could get on the end of them.

Forrestfield had the best chance to go ahead in the 21st minute, but a heroic save from Rockingham goalkeeper Alfie Brincat kept the scores level.

Brincat was substituted moments later, suffering a chest injury from the incident.

Forrestfield was reduced to ten-men just seconds after play resumed in the second half.

After a quick Rockingham City attack out wide, Leslie Mari took out his man, leaving the referee with no choice but to give him his second yellow card and was sent off.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Forrestfield found themselves ahead just six minutes later.

Jordan Hart cut the ball back for Laure who placed the ball into the corner.

Rockingham continued to push for an equaliser, but resilient defending from Forrestfield gave the home side all three points.

Both sides were lucky not to have any other players sent off, with the referee having to give out ten yellow cards in a fiery encounter.

Rob Creyar, Rockingham City coach was happy with his sides performance, but disappointed with the result

“I’m delighted with the performance, we were the best side today, we dominated the game from start to finish”

“It’s six points we’ve lost to Forrestfield this year, both games we should have won. We just need to learn how to get the ball in the back of the net better”
