Ten-man Gosnells advance to Play-Off Final

Report by Peter Simcox

Gosnells City moved into the All Flags State League Promotion and Relegation Play-off Final after a 3-1 win against Swan United at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Gosnells took lead early through Darren Francis, before being reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Josh Wade.

Jordan Parfitt doubled Gosnell’s lead on 59 minutes, before Steve Shore pulled one back for Swan.

Parfitt’s second sealed the 3-1 win on the night with the tie ending 6-1 on aggregate.

Gosnells now face Morley Windmills in the Play-off Final, who defeated Wanneroo City.

The first leg will be held at Walter Padbury Reserve on Saturday, September 30 with the second leg taking place at Wotton Reserve on Thursday, October 5.

Gosnells striker Parfitt said his side are looking forward to the Final with confidence.

“We’ve had a hard season with injuries, but wins like tonight make it all worthwhile, and we go into next week’s final on a high,” he said.

“We know Morley will be another tough game, and they want it just as much as we do, but we’ll take a great deal of confidence from this result, and give it our all in both legs.”

Gosnells coach Alan Dunlop heaped praise on the two-goal hero and the experience of skipper Dean Aplegren.

“We kept our shape really well and young Jordan (Parfitt) up top worked his socks off and he did a great job and scored two goals to cap a good performance off.

“Our skipper also put in another great shift for us, he’s been injured but has been first class in recent weeks, while Darren (Francis) and Tom (Gibbons) were great in the middle of the park, but it was a good team performance tonight and we now move on to Morley.

“It’s all about recovery for us now, but we are determined to stay in the division. It’s going to be a tough test, but this is what play-off is meant to bring, a bit of excitement, and let’s just hope we’re on the right end of it.”
