Tom’s Blog: Best foot forward from Eddie

Football West News

A team of Football West referees is currently in the UK undertaking a referees development tour.

One of the referees, Tom Robinson, is writing a blog for Football West during the trip. Here is his second instalment:

The Football West referees tour to the UK continued with the team moving to sunny Middlesbrough.

Before commuting from Leeds the guys spent their last night in Yorkshire watching an English Premier League match between Huddersfield and Fulham, featuring Aussie Aaron Mooy.

The game was a fantastic experience, and the boys were sure to pick up plenty of tips from the ref in the middle.

From there we packed up the vans and drove up to Middlesbrough in the north-east, and were greeted by English Football League officials Ross Joyce and Dave Avent, from the referee’s department at the North Riding County Football Association.

The local boys were very accommodating, providing us with high quality games to officiate in, including a local derby match between the Middlesbrough and Newcastle United Academy sides.

Ross and Dave have also put on technical sessions with the lads, providing some insight in to how referees control a match in England, and how they are assessed.

The boys were also treated to their fair share of leisure time in North Riding, including a tour of Middlesbrough FC’s ground the Riverside Stadium, and a round of Footgolf, which team coach Eddie Lennie dominated throughout.
