WA sides victorious at NYC

Football West News

Football West has made a winning start to day two of the National Youth Championships at Coffs Harbour with the Gold Fields Under 13 and Under 14 State sides defeating their Capital Football counterparts.

After yesterday’s deluge there were more dark skies over the C.ex International Stadium, although thankfully it remained dry for the matches.

OFFICIAL DRAW

The Under 13s played first and came from behind to win their match 2-1.

The Canberra side made the faster start and led 1-0 at half time. However the WA U13s hit back through ECU Joondalup duo Louis Hadfield and Toby Snook to record their first victory of the week.

That match was followed by the Under 14s clash and again Western Australia won 2-1.

Goals from Liam Ellison (Murdoch University Melville) and Kane McEwan (ECU) gave the Under 14s a 2-0 lead and although they conceded late on, they did enough to make it two wins from two.

The Gold Fields State teams play again today, both against Football NSW Blue.

On Monday the Under 13 team went down 2-0 to Brisbane Roar in a match played in wet and wild conditions.

But there was better news later on day one with the Gold Fields Under 14 State side beginning their campaign with a 3-1 win over Roar.

All the goals came from ECU players – Sebastian Gomez, Daniel Katz and Taiga Matoba netting.

Football West Technical Manager Cris Ola said: “Both teams did very well in terms of attitude and approach.

“It was terrible conditions with the wind and rain. During the Under 13 game the pitch was flooded and we were questioning if it was going ahead.

“It was similar in the first half of the 14s match but then the rain stopped.”

Gold Fields is the sponsor of all Football West State teams.
