WA youngsters enjoy Chelsea expertise

Football West and the Chelsea Foundation have been running a series of workshops this week in the lead-up the Chelsea’s glamour friendly match against Perth Glory at Optus Stadium next week.

On Tuesday Chelsea coaches, led by Chelsea Foundation Senior International Development Officer David Monk, went to Lynwood Senior High School to work with more than 80 students from the school’s Intensive English Centre and Education Support Centre.

Then in the evening the Foundation coaches held a coach education workshop at Murdoch University Melville FC.

Around 70 coaches attended the workshop and the Chelsea representatives spent an hour in the classroom explaining some of the work they do with their young players as well as showing the facilities they have in the UK.

They then went out on the pitch and worked with Melville Under 11 and Under 14 squads.

Football West Development Officer Garry Church said: “It was a superb opportunity for WA coaches to see Chelsea operate with the young players here.

“There were quite a few similarities  in what they do in their foundation development program and what we do in WA, which is a good sign that we are progressing in the right direction in the development of the players in WA.

“We’d also like to thank Melville for their co-operaion us to use the facilities there.”

On Wednesday the Chelsea Foundation coaches were at Balcatta Senior High School, with around 50 students taking part in sessions.

On Wednesday evening the Chelsea coaches then worked with the Football West NTC U17 girls and Elite U16 boys at Celebration Park in Balga.
