2023 Women’s World Cup bid win terrific for WA

Football West News

Football West today welcomes the news that Australia and New Zealand will host the Women’s World Cup in 2023.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino made the announcement late last night WA time, confirming that the Australia-NZ bid had been successful, ahead of Colombia’s.

Australia-NZ received 22 votes, compared to Colombia’s 13.

Perth will be one of 12 host cities across the two countries, with matches to be played at HBF Park.

FFA: GROUND-BREAKING WIN

Football West CEO James Curtis said the decision was tremendous for the sport in Western Australia.

“Congratulations to everyone whose hard work has made this possible and the thousands of Western Australians who signed up to support the bid,” he said.

“The bidding team have worked wonders and it will be great to have the best players in the world on our doorstep.

“Perth has been a key component of the bid thanks to the support of the WA Government.

“This will benefit all of football in WA, from the youngsters seeing their heroes and the fact we are hosting these top players, to the projection our state will receive in being part of one of the biggest sporting contests in the world.”
