Perth put seven past Balga

Report by Kelechi Osunwa

Perth SC booked a spot in the regional quarter-finals of the FFA Cup with a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Balga at Princess Wallington.

The Azzuri were made to work hard for the first 30 mintues, with Daniel Cain marshalling the Balga defence and Vincent Longo busy in the midfield.

But once the visitors went ahead it was one-way traffic for the NPL WA league leaders.

The opening goal came when Perth punished a Balga mistake for Michael Domfeh to slot home.

Balga, who upset Inglewood United in the last round, pushed for an equaliser when Herman Michaele’s cross wasn’t dealt with and Dejan Aleksic needed to be on his toes to make a goalline clearance.

That was as good as it got for Balga, who were undone again when Matthew Milenkovic latched onto a long ball only to be brought down in the box. Midfielder Kristian Santich stepped up and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Balga started the second half the better, with Michaele proving to be an outlet but they failed to create any sustained pressure.

The home side were then hit with a sucker punch when Paul Zimarino rocketed a volley flush on into the top corner outside the penalty area. A goal of the season contender for sure.

Frank Furfaro got in on the scoring next, with his first contribution off the bench. The winger collected the ball deep in his half, powered into the Balga box and thundered an effort in off the crossbar to make it 4-0.

Things went from bad to worse for Balga when substitute Zoran Vrteski was sent off from two bookable offensives just 14 minutes after entering the game.

Alekis Jovic made it 5-0 after Domfeh dragged two players out of position and laid it on a plate to Jovic to tap home.

With the game petering to a close Balga hit the bar through Longo before Santich claimed his second penalty to make it 6-0 and Zimarino grabbed his second with the last kick off the game.
