FFA Cup: Bayswater, Floreat fly WA flag

Football West News

The FFA Cup returns tonight with Bayswater City and Floreat Athena bidding to become only the second NPL WA side to reach the Round of 16.

Bayswater’s away tie at Olympic FC in Brisbane will be shown live on Fox Sports while Floreat’s match at Adelaide Athena will be live streamed.

Full details on how to watch any of the six ties that are being played tonight can be found of the FFA website HERE

Chris Coyne’s Bayswater suffered disappointment in losing the Belt Up Cup Final to Floreat on Saturday but there is enough experience in the squad to move on quickly.

In Daryl Nicol, Gordon Smith and the emerging Gio Colli they know they possess a threat going forward.

However, Olympic have been the NPL QLD entertainers in 2019 with 77 goals scored from just 22 matches. They also have a bona fide goalscoring weapon in Chris Lucas.

The former Bentleigh Greens star, and the likes of ex-Hyundai A-League midfielder Alex Smith and Jez Lofthouse, must be marshalled closely by the visiting Bayswater defence.

With the Belt Up Cup safely in the trophy cabinet Floreat have already had the taste of silverware this year. Now they want the glamour of a tie against an A-League club in the Round of 16.

To get there they might need to keep quiet 35-cap Albania international Kristi Vangjeli, who has shared the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi before. Hopefully the likes of Floreat skipper Dean Evans and top scorer Robert Petkov can also give him food for thought.

Sorrento in 2017 hold the honour of being Football West’s sole representative in the Round of 16.
