Balcatta reach State Cup decider

Football West News

Balcatta will face Northern Redbacks in the Women’s State Cup Final after defeating Queens Park 2-0 at Coker Park on Wednesday night.

Goals from Christiane Astorp and and Caitlin Doeglas won the rescheduled semi final for Lisa Tana’s side.

The only blemish for Balcatta was the second-half dismissal of keeper Gabrielle Dal Busco for denying an opponent a goalscoring opportunity. She will now miss Sunday’s final at Rockingham’s Lark Hill Sporting Complex.

Fortunately for Balcatta Melissa Shepherd proved more than capable between the sticks and ensured they kept a clean sheet.

“I’m ecstatic, the girls worked really, really hard,” Tana said.

Balcatta also defeated Queens Park in last year’s Top Four Cup Final and asked if her team is one that rises to the occasion, Tana said: “It looks that way, I don’t know … we’ve played good football throughout the year but not got the results.”

Sunday’s decider aginst Premier Division leaders Redbacks kicks off at 5pm and is one of five finals taking place at Lark Hill, including three Smarter than Smoking Junior Cup finals.
