Balcatta too good for Panthers

Report by Samuel Hays

A dominant Balcatta made light work of Women’s Premier League bottom club Stirling Panthers with a 4-0 victory at Yuluma Park on Sunday.

Ashleign Panaia was a constant threat down the left for Balcatta and was rewarded with a first-half double, while Tessa De Leo and Baxter Tnew also got on the scoresheet.

It was a battle between the two bottom clubs but it didn’t show as it was all Balcatta early on with Kayleigh Davis sending a squared ball from Panaia over the bar.

RESULTS

The first goal would come in the eighth minute as Panaia netted with a tidy finish after the ball was played across the box.

And it didn’t take long for the second to come when in the 21st minute a Caitlin Doeglas cross was blasted home by De Leo.

It was looking as if it could get ugly for Stirling as Balcatta added a third after 36 minutes through another good finish from Panaia.

But to their credit they didn’t drop their heads and continued to fight after the break with little reward offered from a stoic Balcatta defence.

Balcatta continued to pepper the goal as Monique D’Opera sent a shot over the bar and Tnew fired just wide and it looked as though they would have to settle for three.

However, in the 88th minute Tnew put in a cross to the back post which evaded everyone including Stirling keeper Stacey Cavill and found its way into the back of the net.
