Belt Up Amateur Cup: Kalamunda on easy street

Report by Edward Nixon

Kalamunda United booked their ticket to the Belt Up Amateur Cup third round with a 3-0 win away at Olympic Kingsway on a cold Friday night.

Kalamunda captain Adrian Street netted twice, while fellow strike partner Eddie Sorna also found the back of the net as United kept their cup run alive.

“Today was a great performance,” Street said.

“The boys worked hard at the back and a couple of goals was the icing on the cake.”

Despite playing away from home, Kalamunda started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead just before the half-hour mark as Street steered home Michael Schalk’s inviting delivery.

Steer almost doubled his side’s advantage just before the half-time break but saw his headed effort go wide of Raj Hirani’s goal.

Kingsway upped the tempo after the change of ends and nearly found themselves level as Ben Harris headed wide.

The miss would prove costly as Kalamunda doubled their advantage just minutes later – Sorna rounding Hirani before finishing into an empty net.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Kingsway, with United adding a third in injury time when Street converted a spot-kick to send his side into the third round.
