Football West is delighted to announce that Colm Costello will coach the Gold Fields State Amateur Team in 2019.
The former Wembley Downs Head Coach took the role last year and led the side on a victorious tour of Malaysia in November. They won all three matches, scoring 10 goals and conceding none.
Costello will be a familiar figure at grounds again this season as he assesses players for the State Amateur Team’s return to Malaysia later this year.
“Last year was a terrific experience and it’s a great honour to be asked to coach the side again,” Costello said.
“I will be around the grounds each Sunday to check on players and see who is in the frame.
“I know of two players from last year, Paul McCormack and Paul Rainford, who have gone to play State League. And one or two guys are now playing Masters, so that means there are places up for grabs.”
Costello said he enjoyed the experience of 12 months ago.
“It’s different when you are watching games,” he said. “Instead of just concentrating on your own team you are looking at both teams and the different formations.”
Costello described last year’s tour as “probably the most professional set up I’ve ever been in”.
“And the boys applied themselves really professionally. For a bunch of amateur guys, they treated it professionally and results showed at the end,” he said.
