The 2019 Country Camp was held across the last week, with a record 175 players from the regions travelling to Perth to participate.
Players were selected at Country Week to participate at Country Camp and were from locations including Broome, Tom Price, Port Hedland, Karratha, Newman, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Peel, LNJSA, CCJSA, Albany/Denmark, Esperance and Kalgoorlie.
Supported by Football West’s Official Regional Partner, Gold Fields, the camp provides opportunities for regional players to be coached by Football West accredited coaches and play games against NPL and Metro teams from Perth.
Participants were treated to a short pre-match address and water bottles from Gold Fields Unit Manager for Stakeholder Relations, Eddie Sheppard, who spoke of the strong alignment between Gold Fields and Football West, and challenged the participants to consider their school subject choices in a fast changing technological environment.
“Gold Fields is honoured to have been provided a platform to address the participants at the Football West Country Camp”
“Country Camp is an opportunity for the company to invest in and address the communities in the areas that Gold Fields operates”
“This platform provided the opportunity to emphasise the importance of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) subjects as key requirements for future careers, both in the mining industry and outside of the mining industry.”
Identified players at camp will be provided an invitation to participate in the Country State Teams travelling to Singapore for the Singa Cup (U14 and U16 girls, U12, U14 and U16 boys) in November. This year will be the first year we have sent an U14 girls team to the Singa Cup.
U13 and U15 Boys to Thailand for the Phuket Cup in November 2019.
All selected players will be notified within the next month.
