Dorrien Gardens to host Belt Up Cup Final

Football West News

Football West is pleased to announce that Dorrien Gardens will host this year’s Belt Up Cup Final between Bayswater City and Floreat Athena.

The match will take place on Saturday, July 20 and will be live streamed.

It will be one of three games taking place on the day, with the U18 Cup Final and the Reserves Cup Final preceding the main event.

This is the second year in succession that Perth SC have hosted the final and the second straight year that the State Cup has carried the Belt Up name.

Belt Up is an Insurance Commission of Western Australia road safety initiative urging drivers and passengers to wear seatbelts.

Insurance Commission Secretary Kane Blackman said: “The Insurance Commission is proud to stand behind the seatbelt message to promote the Belt Up Cup Final, as it returns to Perth SC’s Dorrien Gardens.

“We want everyone going to watch Bayswater versus Floreat on July 20 to wear a seatbelt, and to continue doing so every time they are in a car.

“Sadly, we still receive claims from people who didn’t wear a seatbelt and were involved in a crash.

“Seatbelts save lives and lessen injuries caused from crashes.

“The Belt Up message is critical for the Insurance Commission, as less severe injuries from crashes result in lower claims costs and more affordable insurance premiums for motorists.”

Perth SC President Gary Marocchi said: “We are very happy to host the final again, although not happy that we are not in it!

“At the moment the ground looks a picture. Hopefully the weather is kind and it stays this way over the next two weeks.

“We have assisted Football West over the years, hosting Perth Glory and Women’s sides. We believe it’s an ideal venue to showcase the game and help it grow more and with the live stream hopefully our ground gets some exposure around the country.”

Mr Marocchi said he was expecting a tasty encounter between two sides that know each other well.

“They are two teams with a lot of history and I think the final will be a fantastic game. Floreat beat Bayswater in the Night Series Final and Bayswater turned the tables in the league the other week,” he said.

“And it’s good to see some of the other clubs being represented in the other finals, such as Glory, Sorrento and Cockburn.”

Mr Marocchi added: “The partnership with the Insurance Commission has been going a couple of years now and it’s good to get the message across to make sure people do belt up. And congratulations to the governing body on getting this sponsorship.”

Football West Head of Member Services Alex Novatsis said: “We are delighted to take the final back to Dorrien Gardens and Perth SC, a club we have a very good working relationship with. I would also like to thank Perth SC President Gary Marocchi for his assistance.

“Last year’s final between Armadale and Gwelup there was a day to remember and I believe Bayswater and Floreat will be the same.”

Mr Novatsis added: “Football West greatly values our partnership with ICWA and the Belt Up message is hugely important. Anything that brings down the road toll is to be encouraged.”

Admission for the Belt Up Cup Final will be $10 and $5 for concessions, while Under 16s will be free.
