Fish nets late winner for leaders Kingsley
Report by Samuel Hays
Kingsley maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division after a 2-1 victory over Jaguar FC at Chichester Park on Sunday.
Simeone Sichel put Kingsley ahead after 63 minutes before an own goal from Adam O’Neill put the visitors back on level terms in the 88th minute.
But Kingsley didn’t drop their heads and claimed the three points through substitute Ryan Fish in the 90th minute.
Neither side was very clinical in front of goal in the first half as Josh Waldock and O’Neill both had good chances but couldn’t find the target while Lewis Flatt forced two good saves from Jaguar keeper Makuie Mapooth.
But Kingsley took the lead when a Joel Gillespie free kick found Sichel at the back and he made no mistake with the finish from close range.
Jayden Drummond had the opportunity to bury the game from the penalty spot after Waldock was fouled in the box but the impressive Mapooth made a fantastic low save to his right.
And Jaguar made Kingsley pay for their missed chances when a well placed free kick forced O’Neill into heading into his own net.
However Kingsley showed great fight as keeper Ryan Moss sent a long goal kick into the path of Drummond, who used his pace to get in behind and shoot before Fish slotted away the deflected shot.
“Jags are a quality team, probably one of the best in the league in the last two years,” said Kingsley coach Steve Dimitrovich.
“For our boys to respond after scoring that own goal and get the winner … their attitude is just spot on at the moment.”
Kingsley move on to cup action on Wednesday night against Emerald FC and Dimitrovich is aiming to be part of another final while Jaguar will face North Perth in the league.
