Football West announces workforce adjustments

Football West has taken the difficult decision to implement significant workforce adjustments as part of our measures to deal with the fallout of the COVID-19 crisis.

The changes, which affect all Football West staff, include the standing down of staff, the reduction of working hours and other measures.

However, as the COVID-19 landscape alters and with various stimulus packages being announced or restrictions enforced, Football West will constantly review our position to ensure continuity and support for our people, clubs and the football community.

The postponement of competitions and programs has had a significant impact on Football West’s revenue stream, leading to the adjustments which will result in only a minimum critical workforce operating.

Football West CEO James Curtis said it was a difficult decision to take but that he was confident the long-term future of the organisation remained positive.

“Football West has built a strong and successful team, with the support of our clubs, partners, volunteers and other stakeholders,” he said.

“We have delivered more programs and reached more participants from diverse backgrounds, with 2019 being another record year for growth in these areas. For the first time, we have a Development Officer in all of our regions.

“However, the impact of the COVID-19 on Football West cannot be ignored. This is why we have had to make these significant changes to our workforce.”

Mr Curtis added: “The decision taken today is particularly hard as we have a great team, including our dedicated community coaches and volunteers, who go beyond for the greater good of football in Western Australia.

“We also recognise that our clubs, community and those local businesses who are sponsors of our clubs are all directly impacted by COVID-19. The pain is real and Football West remains committed to helping our clubs alleviate that pain.

“It is at this time that we as a football community will collectively unite and respect our values and each other to ensure that when the time is ready we all will be ready to resume together.

“Looking ahead, I am confident Football West will come through this period. This is a time for consolidation and planning, but it is also a time for innovation, fresh ideas and the seeking out of new opportunity.”

Football West urges all members to continue to respect all members of the community, including the football community, and continue to follow the latest expert health advice.
