Football West has appointed its first Community Football Manager.
Sarah Du Plessis will travel around the state as part of her role overseeing the Regional Development Officers, as well as looking after many of the development programs in the metro area.
“The key areas I am responsible for at the moment are the Walking Football Program, the Aboriginal Soccer Program, our Regional Development Officers and Programs, and our other Community Programs,” she said.
“We currently have three full-time Regional Development Officers: in the Great Southern, Leeuwin-Naturaliste and the Goldfields. We are also working towards having one in the Pilbara and Kimberley. It is my job to work with them to oversee resources and ensure we are meeting our targets in such important growth areas.
“I went down to Margaret River last month with Head of Development Jamie Harnwell to see some of the programs and the work done by Regional Development Officer Juan Propato.”
Walking Football is another program Sarah is looking to expand, while she has already had a first-hand experience of Street Football.
“We went to Belmont Forum and it was fantastic to see the whole community engaged. The youngsters loved it and it was great to have so many different bodies involved, such as the WA Police, the City of Belmont and Football West,” she said.
South Africa-born Sarah, who has lived in Perth for four years, grew up a Liverpool supporter. She was previously in a retail management position, while before that she was in a management and development role in tennis.
“Coming to Football West was an opportunity to work in sport, which is my first and biggest passion,” she said.
“I’m really looking forward to working with such an enthusiastic team and helping make a difference.”
Head of Development Jamie Harnwell said: “I am extremely excited to welcome Sarah on board as the Community Football Manager.
“The department has grown its reach dramatically over the past couple of years and Football West is widely recognised for the diverse range of programs and services we deliver.
“With Sarah’s employment, we will be able to increase Football West’s regional footprint further as well as continue the development of other areas such as female football.”
