Football West introduces Participation Agreements

Football West is introducing Participation Agreements for the 2019 season.

A key component of the Football West 2018-2022 Strategic Plan is to empower Clubs participating in Football West competitions and to improve governance and management practices that will support the sustainable growth of the game in Western Australia.

As part of this, Football West will be introducing Participation Agreements commencing for the 2019 season. These agreements have been successfully utilised for several years in other Member Federations, including Football NSW and Football Victoria.

There are four reasons for the introduction of Participations Agreements:

·                Ensure all Clubs are either Corporations or Incorporated Associations.

·                Ensure Incorporated Associations comply with the Associations Incorporations Act 2015 (WA) before the 1 July 2019 deadline.

·                Establish the expectations of both Football West and the Clubs.

·                To ensure good governance and best practice across all Clubs.

For many Clubs this process will be formalising the governance arrangements that have been in place for some time, while for others this is the opportunity to ensure that improvements are made where necessary.

Football West’s intent is to enter into a Participation Agreement with all clubs who are intending on participating in 2019 competitions.

Understandably the introduction of a new process can be challenging, which is why Football West is committed to providing resources and assistance to Clubs through the application process.

All Club Presidents have now been provided a copy of the Participation Agreement and Participation Agreement Guidelines. Applications are now open and will close on 22 February 2019. Applications can be submitted through the online form that will be on the website.

Football West will be hosting information sessions for Clubs at the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries to address any queries. Details of the information session will be released shortly and if you would like to attend the information session there will be an opportunity to register online on our website.
