Football West has appointed its first Regional Development Officer for Goldfields.
Josh Chiat’s role will be to build Football West’s presence in the region and work with the local football community.
Josh joins Football West from the Kalgoorlie Miner, where he worked as a reporter in both resources and sport for more than three years. A keen footballer, he has played for Boulder in the Goldfields Soccer Association.
“This is a really exciting role and one where I can make a real difference. There is a lot of talent in the region and it is up to me to help bring that talent through,” Josh said.
“I am looking forward to working with local clubs and schools and making sure the youngsters are afforded the best opportunities to advance with their football.”
The Goldfields region is one of the biggest in WA and includes the two major centres of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance. This new position has been made possible thanks to Football West’s partnership with Gold Fields, our official Regional Football Program partner.
Gold Fields is already the name sponsor of all of Football West’s State Teams and this increased support will bolster Football West’s capacity to deliver throughout the State.
Football West Community Football Manager Sarah Du Plessis said: “We are delighted that our partnership with Gold Fields has given us this opportunity.
“Josh knows the Goldfields area very well and he will fit straight in.
“We will be building from the grassroots right through to developing pathways for players who want to take their football further.
“The more talented players will benefit from the introduction of a Hyundai Talent Support Program. But our focus is not just on the elite. We will also be developing coaches and getting parents involved with our programs.”
