Football West held part one of a community futsal course on the weekend for youngsters looking to take the next step on the coaching ladder.
The course, at Lords Recreation Centre in Subiaco, was part of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Young Sport Leaders program, which was launched in May this year to find the next generation of coaches and referees aged between 14-24.
Football West Development Officer Garry Church said: “It has been encouraging to see these young coaches slowly develop over the last six months.
“Each session they are challenged to use the skills they have developed on the course over the last six months, they have to achieve certain things like getting the practice started within two minutes, communicating clearly, using demonstrations and engaging all the participants.
“Saturday was a futsal course but had similar principles when delivering a session in a club environment. The young coaches are supported by mentors during the course of the year and get the opportunity to get an accreditation and enhance their skills.
Anybody aged between 14-24 who is keen to get involved in the program should email email@example.com
