Healing hands Gwelup the win

Football West News

Two goals from Ellis Healing proved decisive for Gwelup Croatia on the weekend as they moved on to the shoulders of State League Division One frontrunners Ashfield SC.

Healing struck in the 52nd and 69th minutes to give Gwelup a 2-0 win over UWA-Nedlands.

Taki Nicolaidis’ side are now two points behind Ashfield with two games in hand, following the leaders’ 1-0 reverse away at Fremantle City. Emmanuel Kanpeyeng was Freo’s scorer.

Game of the day was a 3-3 draw between third-place Olympic Kingsway and Western Knights in fourth.

Kingsway looked well placed when 3-1 up with 20 minutes remaining. However, Knights rallied to share the spoils as Dean Hurley completed a hat-trick with two second-half penalties.

Antonio Naglieri scored two for Subiaco as they saw off struggling Mandurah City 4-2, while Joondalup United won an entertaining game at bottom club Morley Windmills 5-3.

Boas Mtwale scored a first half hat-trick for Windmills, who led 3-1 at the interval.

But Joondalup roared back in the second half with four goals in a 20-minute spell, including a double from Ben Wantee.
