Huge task for underdogs Carramar on marathon cup day

Football West News

Stirling Lions will host one of the busiest days of the Football West season on Sunday with five finals across 12 hours.

The Belt Up Amateur, Masters and Metro competitions all have their showpiece matches at Macedonia Park, kicking off with the Belt Up Metro Cup Final between Joondalup City and Fremantle City at 9am.

That is followed by the Belt Up Masters Cup Final involving Kingsley and Hillarys at 11.15am, then Joondalup United and Bayswater City meet in the Belt Up Over 45s decider (1.30pm).

The final two matches will be livestreamed on the Football West Facebook and YouTube pages.

The Belt Up Amateur Reserves Cup at 4pm features Wembley Downs and North Beach, before the big one – and another derby – between Kingsley and Carramar in the Belt Up Amateur Cup (6.30pm).

Second Division Carramar have performed fantastically to get this far. Their nerve of Denis Cleary’s side is unquestionable after coming through two penalty shoot-outs, including in their defeat of Warnbro Strikers in the semi-final.

However, 2018 cup winners Kingsley are an entirely different proposition.

After last season’s victory over Leeming Strikers, Kingsley coach Steve Dimitrovich said the “monkey was off the back” in terms of winning silverware. He wasn’t kidding. Kingsley are now leaving the Belt Up Amateur ranks to join the State League after storming to the Premier Division title. They lost just once in 22 league games and signed off with a 9-1 hammering of Belmont Villa. It will be a massive upset if they do not complete the Double.
