Joondalup top after Taylor-made victory
Football West News
Two rounds in to the 2020 Belt Up Amateur Premier Division season and Joondalup United are the only side with a 100 per cent record following their 4-2 win at Queens Park.
A busy opening period saw Joondalup 3-1 up inside 17 minutes, before Queens Park pulled one back early in the second half.
Keeper Luke Green then saved a penalty to ensure Joondalup maintained their lead, before they sealed victory late on.
Joondalup’s goals came from Andreas Bouzinekis, Adam Taylor, Tony Taylor and a Leigh Bridger own goal, while Jawid Safari and Byron Goodwin netted for Queens Park.
Behind Joondalup are four sides on four points, including Hamersley Rovers who battled from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away at Quinns FC.
A Wayne Carter double put Quinns in control, only for Gabriel Vieira Soares and Robert Klenkoski to rescue a point for Rovers.
Two goals from David Clark helped third-place Kwinana United win 4-1 at UWA Nedlands, while North Perth United are fourth following a 1-1 draw at South West Phoenix on Saturday. Jean Stephan Foolchund gave United the lead, while Zach Van Oosten equalised from the penalty spot before half-time.
Wembley Downs are fifth after their 1-0 defeat of Leeming Strikers. Ryan Morris scored the only goal on 49 minutes.
Maddington White City put their opening-day collapse against North Perth behind them as a second Chris Sparks brace in as many weeks delivered a 2-1 victory over Jaguar FC.
