Kinglsey extend lead despite draw

Report by Samuel Hays

Joondalup United left Beldon Park the happier side after holding Belt Up Amateur Premier Division leaders Kingsley to a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

Despite failing to win, however, the result saw Kingsley stretch their lead to nine points after North Perth United went down 2-0 to Jaguar FC.

Joondalup, keen to put on a better show after suffering a 9-3 drubbing at the hands of their local rivals earlier this season, displayed early attacking intent as Liam Fryer forced a good save from Kingsley keeper Ryan Moss.

With space at a premium, every set-piece was an opportunity and Kingsley’s Joel Gillespie was unlucky when his free kick came off the post.

Fryer again could have netted for Joondalup when he found space for a shot but he sent it high and wide of the target.

Jayden Drummond then unleashed a great strike but Joondalup keeper Andrew Tooriath came up with an even better save to keep the score deadlocked.

That was how the score would remain as neither team was able to find a breakthrough, with three games in a week probably taking its toll on the Kingsley players.
