Kingsley take big step towards title

Report by Samuel Hays

Kingsley have opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division after defeating nearest rivals North Perth United 2-0 at Woodville Reserve.

Simone Sichel and Josh Waldock scored the goals that sent Kingsley a step closer to State League football.

It was a slightly scrappy start but when Kingsley were able to maintain possession they quickly punished North Perth. Sichel got on the end of a long cross from Bailey Salmon and headed home with a well-placed finish.

And the lead was doubled just before half-time when Waldock got collected a long kick from Kingsley keeper Ryan Moss and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

North Perth had keeper Jamie Serra to thank for keeping them in the match after the break as he made two great saves from Sichel and Jayden Drummond.

Joel Gillespie had a chance to put the game to bed in the 81st minute after Alfred Beyan brought down Drummond in the box but Gillespie couldn’t beat Serra, who again pulled of a fantastic save.

North Perth, the reigning champions, needed a win to go level on points with Kingsley. But they were unable to create enough and it was Kingsley who claimed a vital three points in their search for the league title and a switch to Saturday football.
